The
Queen of Scream
![]() Iowa-born actress Linnea Quigley has forged a reputation as the definitive and ultimate "Scream Queen." And with almost 100 movies under her belt so far, is it any wonder that Linnea has been listed in the pages of Variety as one of the busiest actresses in Hollywood? Yet she still also finds time to jam with her band, The Skirts, and do charitable work with abandoned and abused animals. Nevertheless, it was as 'Trash,' in the sequel-spurning, 80s horror-classic Return of the Living Dead, that Linnea first made an indelible mark on the hearts of zombie-lovers everywhere. In fact, as Trash, Linnea sits and ponders the worst possible ways to die - ironically, Linnea has portrayed characters in tens of movies where her main purpose (seemingly) was to die in a grisly and inventive fashion - before cavorting naked around a graveyard in the dead of night. Later in the film, Trash would be swarmed and bitten by an army of zombies and become one of the living dead herself. Following RLD, there was no looking back... Witchtrap,
Nightmare on Elm Street 4 & 5, Creepozoids, Innocent Blood, Vice Academy,
Night of the Demons, Pumpkinhead 2, Silent Night Deadly Night 1 & 2, Virgin
High, to name but a few. And even prior to the success of RLD, Linnea was
making a living from dying on celluloid. Simultaneously, she was becoming a
screaming screen legend and blood-stained icon in the horror and sci-fi genres;
her name synonymous with scary movies... although often with a tongue firmly in
cheek. Take for instance Assault of the Party Nerds, Sorority Babes in the
Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, or even her exercise video, Linnea Quigley's Horror
Workout, which somehow incorporates zombies and a slumber party massacre to
create 'the scariest exercise video ever made.' Undoubtedly, without Linnea
these films would have simply slipped into oblivion. Her name on the video-box
arguably keeps flicks like this popular and in print. So it seems fitting that,
like the zombies of RLD, far from being dead and buried, 'Sorority Babes' and
others are still alive and kicking - thanks in part to the bloodcurdling scream
of one of horror's most talented and beloved stars. Now, just in time for Halloween; Celebritymate presents an exclusive interview with Linnea Quigley, who took time out from filming, and other commitments, to talk with Toby Osborne. Celebritymate: Hi Linnea... so, you act, you sing and you also help voice animal rights... where do you find the time? Linnea Quigley: Well, I have no time, or money, or anything. It's hard. I just had some surgery done on the cat and earlier I was pulling those Bufo toads out of the pool and yard - they're poisonous and can kill dogs... After work, and rehearsing with my band, I have no life. But my biggest passion is animals, of course... ![]() CM: Now many of your fans would crown you the undisputed Queen of Scream, what do you think? Who are your idols and influences? LQ: I love the title Queen of Scream... and will scratch anyone who says no I'm not. I have alot of people I admire... just alot. I love comedy and stuff, and I just love alot of the drive-in theatre actresses that worked on stuff that I would have then. I love Tippi Hedren; she is great. And also she helps all the wild animals. She's a wonderful woman. CM: Having starred in so many films of the horror genre, can you explain why you and gore go well together? Do you even like horror films? What's your favourite? LQ: I was told my innocent-look helped... like, to see some innocent girl being stalked freaks people out... And then my scream, and the scared look... Like most kids, I grew up watching the late night scary Saturday movies, and having pizza. I loved getting all scared or scaring my friends... And I loved listening to scary stuff -- urban legends
and all. Favourite horror film? Texas Chainsaw Massacre -- it is just so good.
CM: How many times have you died on celluloid? Is there a style of death that you look forward to 'doing' in the future? LQ: I have not kept count on deaths, but alot... I don't know what I'd choose - something zany, real zany! That's always good. CM: Some of your fans appear to border on the obsessive - as you get to meet so many of them at conventions, how do you cope with their 'devotion'? And what do you really think of people like the guy with the 'Trash' tattoo on his back...? ![]() LQ: I love Cameron... he is so cool and nice, and is into animal rights, and he has me on his back - wow! What an honour! I don't ever know what to say... I mean that's such a compliment! Most of the true fans are great people, they really are. And then you get a few strange ones, but usually they are just strange and they don't even watch the films... CM: Which one of your films (and there's plenty to choose from) is your absolute fave, the one you would recommend to a Linnea-movie virgin? And why? (I love Sorority Babes at the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, personally...) LQ: Well, a must see is RLD since the directing and acting and music is just so stand up. I'm glad you liked Sorority Babes - I loved being offered that role! I miss those times we shot on film, had a family and a fun time, and alot has changed... but Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is pretty weird too. CM: Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers had the dream-casting
of yourself and Gunnar Hansen ('Leatherface' from Texas Chainsaw Massacre!).
Was Gunnar a terrifying man, or, in fact, a super sweet guy? LQ: I was scared working with Gunnar since I loved the movie (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), and I met him - wOw - and he was nice and had no idea how many people loved him! So, he got out and started to see he had fans, which shocked him... I was really freaked since I had no idea - wow, Leatherface... CM: You're probably most well known for your zombie films. If you were a zombie who would you eat and why? LQ: Oh man, that is a great question! I'd eat anyone who hurts
animals and, of course, Saddam since he is just the worst person. CM: I understand you were shooting a new movie called Kannibal in England (that's where I'm from). How was that experience? Did you enjoy British hospitality... or did we suck? ![]() LQ: No, the British are great! It's so cold and damp, that is a problem... ahhhhhh, the cold - but you're clever and funny and just have a good talent for being cool people -- love the accent too. I just don't like the cold, but you guys are great. I'd love to have The Skirts play there so bad. CM: Now, when I say the names Joe Estevez, Don Swayze, Joey Travolta, Jacqueline Stallone, and Linnea Quigley, I am simply listing the actors from the movie Beach Babes from Beyond. Nevertheless, it also sounds like an 'odd man out' game - as you are the only one who is more successful than your siblings... right? Do you know what John Travolta, for example, feels about Joey's work? Does Joe Estevez say things like, 'I nailed that last scene... beat that Martin Sheen!'? Just wondering... LQ: I don't know what those guys think, to tell you the truth... I didn't meet Jaccccccqueline, but hmmm, what a mom. And Joe was great, he just had fun with it. CM: By the way, you've also appeared in two Cheech and Chong movies (Nice Dreams & Still Smokin'). Were the movie sets as fun - and smoky - as the films? LQ: Cheech and Chong films are fun... they are all work, for sure, most of the time, and I'm really friends with Cheech and haven't talked to him since today as I made the mistake three years ago of moving my butt to Florida, ahhhhhwell. CM: Finally, any gossip or news about upcoming films and projects? ![]() LQ: Gossip? Let's see I did some movies that are almost finished - Corpses are Forever, which had a great cast and director, and 35mm, and The Notorious Colonel Steele, and Each Time I Kill directed by (sexploitation icon) Doris Wishman, who died very soon after... she was great... And I did the music in one scene of 'Colonel Steele.' I wrote, sang, and played guitar on it... And then another film called Zombiegeddon. I also just did a photo shoot for The Skirts, and hope to be playing some more conventions soon... CM: Any final words for your fans? LQ: I have no life with alot to do, but I love all of you - so e-mail me through my site, listen to this guy, and... be kind to animals!
