Ken Abraham
has appeared on Law and Order: Criminal Intent, one of the
highest-rated TV shows in North America. However, his screen credits don't
end there - he has also starred in episodes of ER, NYPD Blue, Six Feet Under,
Angel, The Practice, Ally McBeal and 21 Jump Street, to name a few. His
filmography reads like a copy of TV Guide.
![]() Nevertheless, Ken also has another impressive slew of credits from his B-movie past. Although, the New York-born Abraham told Celebritymate's Toby Osborne that you won't find any of these early film roles on his acting resume today... CM: 'Vampires on Bikini Beach', 'Vice Academy', 'Creepozoids'... you're really living the dream, aren't you? How did you find these movies... or did they find you? KA: Well, these movies were made over 15 years ago with virtually no budget -- ergo they sucked. In fact, I did 'Vampires on Bikini Beach' for deferred pay. It's doubtful that the slimeball, scumbag, dipshit, asshole producers are reading this dribble but if they are, "Hey fuckheads, you owe me money!" CM: What in your opinion was your big break in the film business? KA: I've been fortunate to work with actors over the years whom I admire -- Johnny Depp, Halle Berry, Michael Chiklis, Vincent D'Onofrio... etc. But, I'd hardly say I've had a big break. CM: Nowadays readers may recognise you from some of their favourite TV shows: 'NYPD Blue', 'ER', 'Six Feet Under'... When you go to auditions, do you ever try to disguise your prior endeavours in horror B-movies? Or do they help you win auditions?? KA: The B-movies I've done are not even on my resume! '21 Jump St.' is not even on my resume... If it was more than five years ago, it doesn't matter; might as well be another lifetime ago. CM: What was the best show to work on and why? KA: I enjoyed working as an abusive husband and accused child killer on the TV show 'The Practice'. Then again, I enjoyed working up in Vancouver on 'Jump St.', in San Diego on 'Pensacola Wings of Gold', and NYC on 'Law & Order: CI'... I guess you can say, I just like to work - and travel. CM: You've also worked with scream queen
Linnea Quigley ('Creepozoids', 'Return of the Living Dead')... what was she
like to work with? Is she scary in real-life? KA: Linnea was an absolute joy to work with. I did my very first film with her and she was so supportive, caring and fun to be around. Beautiful inside and out. It's a shame I haven't seen her in so many years... CM: Do you remember, what is the cheesiest line of dialogue you've ever had to say in a movie? KA: I've always hated slasher films, particularly ones that are unimaginatively insulting to the audience. You know, the ones where a poor sap wanders off into the lurking darkness, chasing an ominous sound that he mistakes for a friend... "Bobby, is that you? C'mon it's not funny. Bobby?" Well, to my chagrin, I was one of those poor saps. Got gutted with a fishing knife if I recall correctly. Welcome to Hollywood, folks. ![]() CM: Can you share any funny/strange on-set stories from your films with our readers? KA: On my first film 'Creepozoids', directed by the inimitable Ellen Cabot, I was supposed to be attacked by a large mutant rat. Like the movie 'Ed Wood' when Martin Landau as Belas Lugosi had to flail around with a stuffed squid because they couldn't get the mechanics to work, I had to hold a stuffed rat to my arm and scream because our mechanical rat -- with various movable functions, e.g: ears, mouth, whiskers... etc. -- wouldn't work at the last minute! Ms. Cabot, not wanting to waste valuable time, handed me the stuffed 'stand-in' rat and said "scream." I screamed. CM: And lastly, what have you got lined up next and for the future? (Mind you, 'Creepozoids' is a tough act to follow...) KA: Though I simultaneously applaud you and give you the finger for the sarcasm, 'Creepozoids' was a tough act to follow -- at the time that is... Back then, I was a 22 year old working on my first film. I remember saying to Linnea, "I'll never work again." It's the dread that all actors constantly feel. Now, years later, 'Creepozoids' is a distant memory. Like I said earlier, it was another lifetime ago. As for the present, I'm Detective Mooty on 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent'. As for the future... hell, I'd love to work with Linnea Quigley again. (Big smile). We'll see what happens. |
