Eminem2000.com is a fan site run by
fans. Webmaster Jason Wagner is 19 years old, from South
Carolina and admits that he likes the infamous rapper for many reasons, but
"mainly because he speaks his mind about things usually people don't want to
discuss." Although it is the rapper's outspoken nature that has also
made a name for eminem as a hate monger. Toby
Osborne asks the questions and JaSoN did have the
answers. "Many people don't
realize that he has a wide range of songs. Like one can be just simply humorous
and another can be really serious." It is undeniable that JaSoN knows his idol
well. He has worked on his eminem2000 website for two years
now and regularly attracts about 50,000 hits each day. However, I wanted to
know, what is the attraction to a dyed-blonde-haired guy who shouts about
impregnating Spice girls and beating up NSync. 
"He is not be be joked about," JaSoN told me via
e-mail. "Every single well respected rapper and hip-hop head has made comments
about eminem having major talent and should be taken seriously. I
think he gets attention because he is white but he keeps the attention because
of his talent and content."
Nevertheless,
eminem's popularity can surely be traced back to his outspoken
and controversial views on women and gays? "He does degrade woman and
gays," admits JaSoN. "But if you listen carefully he always either takes it
back later in the song or is pointing out one particular woman or gay. When he
says 'gay' or 'fag' he is talking about the common slang term meaning
stupid or dumb."
He concludes that "if you
look at the facts and the real things he is talking about the content is
acceptable and should not be such an issue. Other rappers and artists have said
the same things and just don't get noticed."
At the moment, the controversy isn't doing any
harm to eminem's critically-acclaimed, top ten career. In fact, his
next single 'Stan' is tipped for the Christmas No.1 position and
his double-handed, middle fingers raised posters are selling like very
warm cakes. The only danger is that eminem is on a slippery slope to being
as commercialised as the boy bands and Britneys he loves to loathe.
